The Wind Waker: Heart Piece Locations

Angular Isles


Where: Near the island's shores
How To Get It: Listen for the choir, or use Treasure Chart #15


Where: On the bigger island
How To Get It: Sail around to the southern side to find a lower block that you can climb up on. Hop out of the boat, and climb up. Run around to the other side to spot a block that you can grab. Grab it, then pull it out as far as it will go. Climb up to the next level and wander around to the right, then push the block that's in your way. Hop down, then pull that same block forward until you can climb up and get to the next level. Do so, then just keep climbing until you get to the chest with this Heart Piece.


Bomb Island:


Where: Near one of the big island's Corners
How To Get It: Listen for the choir, or use Treasure Chart #20


Where: Bomb the rock at the top and enter the cave. How To Get It: Follow the thin path to the left and step on the switch in the hole at the end. Now head up to the center platform, and look at the fire spots on the sides. If you zoom way out, you'll notice similar holes that contain switches. Get one of the Magtails to roll into a ball, then pick up the ball and throw it onto a switch. Do the same thing for the other side, and the fire surrounding the chest will disappear, allowing you to retrieve this Heart Piece.


Crescent Moon Island:


Where: Near one of the island's points
How To Get It: Listen for the choir, or use Treasure Chart #11


Diamond Steppe Island:


Where: Underwater
How To Get It: Use Treasure Chart #23 to find this one


Five-Star Isles:


Where: Inside the submarine in the southern part of this square
How To Get It: Kill all the Bokoblins inside


Where: Underwater
How To Get It: Use Treasure Chart #33 to find this.


Flight Control Platform:


Where: Take part in the contest
How To Get It: Set the wind toward the goal, then get your Deku Leaf ready. Jump off the ledge but don't deploy the leaf right away. Use it when you're pretty close to the water and you'll effectively use the updraft. Fly with the wind and try to stay roughly in the center of the lane. Ignore the 2nd updraft, and look to the 3rd one. If you timed the initial leaf-deployment right, you won't have to adjust very much. At any rate, hit that updraft and just float toward the goal. You don't need to use the other two at this point, but if you stay to the center you might catch the 4th one by chance. Just keep floating until you're out of magic. If you didn't do too much course adjustment, you should easily clear the banner and win a Heart Piece.


Forest Haven:


Where: Underwater
How To Get It: Use Treasure Chart #31 to find it.


Forsaken Fortress:


Where: Inside the fortress
How To Get It: Get caught, leave the jail cell, then jump down to the lower level. Move some barrels in the corner to find a switch, press it, then enter the cell and open the chest for this Heart Piece.


Greatfish Island:


Where: Talk to the Merchant How To Get It: At the end of the trading sequence, give the Shop Guru Statue to the Merchant on Greatfish Island to get a Heart Piece.


Where: In a small alcove on part of the island
How To Get It: Sail to the small pillar-island with the ramp leading to the top, and then take said ramp to the top. Face the main island, and you'll see a section that's split in two by beach and a section to the right of that. Orient yourself with the section to the right, then change the wind accordingly, then float toward it with the Deku Leaf. Simply aim for the small alcove you'll see in the side and then open the chest once you get there.


Headstone Island:


Where: On the very top of the island
How To Get It: Use a Hyoi Pear to take control of a seagull, then fly to the top of the island. Fly the seagull through the Heart Piece up there, then return control to Link.


Mailbox:


Where: Any of them
How To Get It: Check the first wriggling mailbox you find


Where: Any of them
How To Get It: Sometime after you've traded in your 20 Golden Feathers, check a wriggling mailbox. You'll get a letter from the guy's girlfriend thanking you for your hard work. And, she decides to thank you with a Heart Piece.


Where: Any of them
How To Get It: Play the letter sorting game at Dragon Roost Island and sort 25 or more letters. You impress the postman, who then talks about the new part-time guy starting soon. Go outside, then come back in and talk to the new guy. He asks to see the "25 letter sort, man" so just sort 25 letters in the time limit. He gives you a letter to his mom and asks you to put it into a mailbox for him. Do so, then a couple days later his mom sends you a letter with a Heart Piece attached.


Needle Rock Island:


Where: anywhere on the island
How To Get It: Have a bunch of Hyoi Pears in your Bait Bag before you get here. Use one to control a seagull, fly him up to the Birds and turn around. Fly toward Link to lure the Birds there, then hit R and take out the birds. Repeat as necessary, or just stop if you wish, then use another Hyoi Pear to send a seagull to the very top of the spire of rock. Fly into the switch to activate it, and then grab the Heart Piece from the chest.


Outset Island:


Where: Orca's house
How To Get It: Return to Outset and talk to Orca, and agree to fight him. You get Rupees for the first 2 challenges, but after you hit him over 500 times, you get a Heart Piece.


Where: Black dirt
How To Get It: After getting the Power Bracelets, lift up the large black pig and carry him to the small bridge (not the large one leading to the forest). After getting across, set him down and sprinkle some All-purpose Bait on the left-most patch of black dirt once he's facing it. He'll then dig up a Heart Piece.


Where: Secret Cave How To Get It: Float over to the jutte with a giant Stone Head on it, then pick it up and enter the cave. Make it through all 50 some levels to get the Heart Piece. Note: I recommend some Health Soup and Blue Potions. You'll need them after certain rooms...like the one with the 4 DarkNuts and 2 Wizrobes.


Pawprint Island:


Where: Crawl through the hole of the big eggshell thing and enter the cave.
How To Get It: Follow the general path forward, then to the right. Just open the chest to retrieve this Heart Piece.


Where: Underwater
How To Get It: Use Treasure Chart #30 to find this Heart Piece.


Rock Spire Island:


Where: In the near-by Shop Ship
How To Get It: Buy this from the "stranger" in the Shop Ship for 950 Rupees


Where: Underwater
How To Get It: Use Treasure Chart #2 to find this


Where: A bit south of the Island
How To Get It: Destroy the 2 pirate ships, then troll for the treasure that they leave. One of the shiny spots is above a chest containing this Heart Piece.


Seven-Star Island:


Where: Look for the seagull flock to find the Big Octo
How To Get It: Take out all of the Big Octo's eyes, then use the Grappling Hook to retrieve this Heart Piece.


Six-Eye Reef:


Where: Inside the submarine nearby.
How To Get It: Kill all the enemies inside to collect this Heart Piece


Southern Fairy Island:


Where: Underwater near the island
How To Get It: Use Treasure Chart #4 to find this one.


Spectacle Island:


Where: The Target Shooting game
How To Get It: Hit all five "pirate ships" with 10 bombs or less


Star Island:


Where: Bomb one of the large boulders to find a cave
How To Get It: Destroy all of the enemies inside


Stone Watcher Island:


Where: On the nearby Platform
How To Get It: Destroy all the cannons on the platform to reveal the chest.


Three-Eye Reef:


Where: In one of the corners
How To Get It: Use Treasure Chart #38


Thorned Fairy Island:


Where: Underwater
How To Get It: Use Treasure Chart #5


Tingle Island


Where: North-ish, find the Giant Squid
How To Get It: When you're being attacked by the squid, use your Canon (bombs) to hit all of the eyes, then use the Grappling Hook on the Treasure spot.


Various:


Where: Find the Koroks
How To Get It: Go into the Deku Tree chamber of Forest Haven and fill up a bottle with the water. You now have Forest Water, which is only special for 20 minutes. Visit all of the islands with Korok on them (marked with leaves on your sea chart) and use the water on the withered saplings. Once you've watered all 8, you get a Heart Piece.


Windfall Island


Where: Battleship game
How To Get It: Hit all three "squids" with 24 bombs or less


Where: Windmill/lighthouse
How To Get It: Find the ladder in the back of the Windmill, then climb up and press the switch to make the mill operational again. At night, hop onto one of the cars and start riding to the top. Break out your Fire Arrows and nock one, then fire when you get lined up with the funnel opening. This lights the lighthouse, and makes a chest appear. Use the Wind's Requiem to make the wind blow toward the chest, then use your Deku Leaf to float to it.


Where: Windmill/lighthouse
How To Get It: After you've lit the lighthouse, as per the Heart Piece strategy above, head onto the ramp leading to the Ferris wheel cars and talk to the guy on it. He's so happy the the Lighthouse is functioning again that he gives you a Heart Piece.


Where: Mansion
How To Get It: After you save the maidens from the Forsaken Fortress, go to the second floor of the rich guy's house. You find new occupants, and you need to go talk to the girl standing by the window. She hands you a letter to deposit into a mailbox, so do that and then return in a couple of days. The postman is arguing with the rich guy, who won't let him deliver a letter, then goes to cool off at the coffee shop. Head there and talk to him, then agree to deliver the letter to Maggie. Do so, and she thanks you with a Heart Piece.


Where: Anywhere outside
How To Get It: Place one of your trading items (as far as I know, it doesn't matter which ones) into the Joy Pedestals scattered about the island. If you put one into all of the outside ones, talk to the guy sitting on a bench to get this Heart Piece.


Where: Outside
How To Get It: After you complete the 3 tasks for Lenzo and get the Deluxe Pictobox, you'll know that Anton (walking dude) and Linda (gal in yellow dress) have a thing for each other. Talk to Linda, then take her picture. Show the picture to Anton, and he'll ramble on about he he'll ask her out. Wait a couple of days, then go into the coffee shop at night. Talk to Linda and you'll get a Heart Piece as a reward.



Where: Auction house
How To Get It: Win this Heart Piece as an auction item.


Where: Anywhere outside
How To Get It: Talk to Ivan, the leader of the Killer Bees, any time after getting the Picto Box. Agree to play the game and the kids will scatter, leaving you to find them. After you spot them, they start running. Catch them using the roll attack, since you move faster, and then move onto the next one. Collect them all to get a Heart Piece as a prize. The kids are:
Behind the Gravestone

On top of the tree near the main archway
Head up the wooden ramp near the gravestone, then head through the arch and take a right. You'll find yourself on top of the main archway, just take the wooden path to the left and go behind the bush.
